Phase 2 of Driver CPC reforms in play from 1st February

The first phase of reforms to the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) came into effect at the start of December 2024. A further phase, speeding up the process of returning to driving a lorry in the UK following expiry of a Driver CPC will apply from 1st February.

The changes introduced in December include:

  • Allowing training to be completed in blocks of 3.5 hours, rather than the previous 7 hours – giving drivers greater flexibility
  • Introducing a National Driver CPC that covers driving a lorry in the UK
  • Separating e-learning from trainer-led courses

You can learn how the reforms affect drivers in the full updated guidance here.
